Comment: I definitely agree with you on the songs. I have a love-hate relationship with the Sherman Brothers. On one hand, they've written enjoyable tunes for Disney classics like The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins as well as the theme songs for several Disneyland attractions. But on the other hand, they've written some bland forgettable nonsense for films like this and Little Nemo.

Comment: Don't worry Mr. Coat, I'm one of the few who agree that the cartoon is pretty mediocre. I liked it when I was a kid but it doesn't hold up that well. I will also give you credit for being a little more objective here than in your infamous Willy Wonka rant. I have to say that I don't consider the live-action movie a great film, but I enjoyed it and I felt that it was the superior version.

Comment: You should let people judge for themselves on which rendition they prefer whether they read the book or not. It's like the OOs cartoons suck video all over again, after that was posted you learned too late you were proven wrong.
Good thing you weren't too critical like in your controversial review of "The Milk of Sorrow"
Mr. Coat: Pretty sure I did let people judge for themselves. As you can see in the video, I mainly stated why I didn't care for the animated Charlotte's Web and why I preferred the newer one. People are completely free to like the animated adaptation, as many people do for reasons I understand.Name: Private

Comment: You'll be surprised that William Hanna and Joseph Barbera met E.B. White discussing what they should not change in the book and what they might change. It's not surprising that the author hated it mostly for the animation and the songs It got good review, it has the same critisms White has but they do praise it for sticking it close to the book.
As the sequel, it sucks. Mostly because it suffers from the "sequel to a Don Bluth film that doesn't involve Don Bluth" syndrome.

Comment: Great show! You haven't read the book until recently? I'm surprised. I thought "The Man" made every kid read that in the fourth grade. :-P

Comment: Good thing E.B. White didn't live to see the attrocious animated rendition of his book The Trumpet of the Swan. It's way unfaithful than Hanna-Barbera's Charlotte's Web and considered to be Richard Rich's worst animated feature. Thankfully it died at the box office due to the fact it was overshadowed by Shrek. It's so terrible that it makes Alpha & Omega look like Paprika.

Comment: Great video Mr.Coat and i also love pigs no mater how fat when they grow compared to a piglet. Plus i don't eat thats how much i love pigs. I read the Charlotte's web when i was in 5th grade. But i do not recall much of the book expcept we watched the animated fillm after reading the book as reward for good classroom behavior plus me and my friend went to see the live action which was releaed same year and we enjoyed it. Thank you for not ranting too much like your infamous Willy Wonka Review.(which i still cringe at this day,no offense Mr. Coat). I could see why you like it better and would'nt blame you. Heck E.B.White Himslef Hated the movie more than you(arcording to Animat's Lookback on Hanna-Barbara). Plus will you ever do a lookback on Babe, it is and will always be one of my absoulte favorite movies ever.

Comment: I love the Hanna Babera Version - although I very much prefer the German version, the songs are better sung, the dubbing is better...and one song which is unforgettable is "Deep in the Dark".
But I agree, the beginning is a little bit draggy and the subplot with the duck is unnecessary. I always skipped big parts of the movie to get to the nets and the part at the fair.

Comment: Thank you for this wonderful video, Mr. Coat. Charlotte's Web was my favorite book when I was a kid, and I still love in to this day. And I agree that the live action version WAS better, but I still adore the animated movie! @Sara: Oh GOD, I HATED the sequel...though I DID kinda like Amanda Bynes as one of Charlotte's daughters!

Comment: I thought the 1973 Hannah-Barbera adaptation of the book "Charlotte's Web" was quite faithful to its source material with good animation and voice cast to boot, even if it was overshadowed by the Sherman Brothers' songs. However, I didn't really care about the live-action version.

Comment: I think I had to read the book in one of my Elementary school years I really don't remember but I have seen neither of the movies. I'll think about checking the live action version out. Not a bad episode! ;)

Comment: Great video Mr. Coat I've never read the book my shef I seen both the live and cartoon (I remade the cartoon form AniMat). I ben wondering that you wold do an look back at "Bone" by Jeff Smith or "Farenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. You don't have to if you're bisey with you're other video.

Comment: By the way how did the animated film do at the box office?
Mr. Coat: It did okay on its initial release. However, it really became a huge hit upon its home video debut in the '90s.Name: Neil Dunsmore

Comment: While I do like the animated adaptation myself, I will agree with you on the songs. There was a certain point where even I, a musical geek, found them annoying. When Veritable Smorgasbord came up, I literally said out loud, "Oh god, shut up, please!" And yeah, the added subplot about the baby goose annoyed me too. It felt like it was crammed in there to add an extra lesson for the kids.

Comment: i actually loved the animated adaption better than the live action one and the fart jokes in the live action one was a bit too far fetched for me. but it's better than Charlotte's Web 2 Wilbur's Great Adventure.

Comment: Thanks Mr. C! My mom loves that book! Though I would hate for her to see how the 2006 movie inserted fart jokes.
