Comment: I was 14 when Inception came out. I loved it then and I love it now. Some kids can appreciate good film. My favorite movies are Fight Club, 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Social Network, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Requiem for A Dream.

Comment: @Nameless commentor- Hate to break it to you, but yes, Jackson Murphy is a bad reviewer. It's not because of his voice. It's because you know he's forcing his complaints just to come across as valid. Even I often get the feeling he's only pretending to be this critical so people will think he's super-smart.

Comment: Jackson Murphy isn't a bad film critic. He's just somebody with a really annoying voice that likes movies. He can be annoying, but calling him a bad critic is going too far. Also, you'll be surprised how many kids like inception and the social network.

Comment: I would usually never rely on critics, professional or otherwise, to tell me if a movie is good or not. Most of the reviews I read are always leaning towards the negative. I won't even go to rottontomatoes for just that reason, even the name of the website tells me that every movie they will have on there will be beaten down, and leave me either confused or disheartened if I personally like the movie (i.e. Green Lantern). Having said all that, I rely on what I think and nobody else. However, if there is a movie I kinda want to see but not too sure if it will be worth it to actually go to the theatre, or I never got around to watching it and was curious about how it turned out, I would go to either imdb (just the star rate that summarises the reception)or wikipedia (unreliable I know, but not totally unreliable). I would also go to animat or itsjustsomerandomguy on youtube. I find mat to be relatable with animated movies and randomguy puts a funny spin on the superheroes between marvel and dc while getting to the heart of the matter. I might have contradicted myself somewhere here, but I just wanted to let it all out. As for my own critiquing, I like any other genre, but I always go for horror, and I find myself being both openminded and nitpicky. Its just that more horror films are either unheard of (unless you look it up online), or go straight to dvd, than then they would be released in theatres. Its almost feels like people have given up on the genre and is now just used for easy money, and what we get is a pile of cliches. There are those that can be good if it had more time to develop, while others are not worth the watch. Because of that, I feel more nitpicky than I do optimistic, but I still keep high hopes that the next one will be good.

Comment: Nice. I haven't heard of a lot of these critics. A 13 year old film critic? Why don't they give me that job? Let that kid's parents buy him an Iphone so he can shoot little videos with his friends and get started on his own filmmaking. Then come back in afew years and try critiquing when he's got some work under his belt.

Comment: Speaking of Ebert, I still respect him as a reviewer, but not as much as I used to. Nowadays, he's paranoid about a LOT of animated films coming out and won't give many of them a chance anymore. I think he only watched, like, a third of the titles that came out last year. He also still won't watch Tangled just because of his bias against anything CGI that Disney makes oh, and he reviewed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs without actually seeing it. Don't believe me? Read the summary he gives and his extreme lack of actual criticism towards it. Yeah, he gave it 'thumbs down' but didn't even bother to explain why. His biased hatred towards anything by Matt Stone and Trey Parker also doesn't help. (Not to mention he changes his standards a LOT, a little too much for me to actually believe it's legit)

Comment: If you've never heard of Spillcom, look them up. Their website is their username only with a dot after Spill. I really like them because not only can you feel the honesty in their reviews, but their style is also VERY similar to Ebert and Siskel only with humor intentionally implemented into it that isn't too distracting.

Comment: This was a really enjoyable episode and I loved all the information that you gave about both the good and bad of critics. And I agree with you that it's best to keep an opened mind when viewing a film. It helps to not make ones opinion biased or of misjudgment. I usually go into films with a opened mind. The only exception however, would be " Cars 2".

Comment: Oh, lord. Jackson Murphy. I remember seeing YouTube videos of him a year or so ago. I don't think he's a real critic. I think his father or someone else is writing those reviews for him. There's no way a kid like him can think about movies like that. Also, his voice is grating.

Comment: I think it was you that said that going to a movie with a bad attitude can also cause someone to not like it. Also other people's opinions can change your own opinion. I'm not a big fan of criticism but I do often listen to them on which movies to see. Sometimes I ignore them (National Treasure, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Green Lantern), Sometimes I agree with them and other people (Tintin, Avatar) and sometimes there are cases in which I shoulda listened to them (Skyline).
