Comment: I still can't believe that you forgot to put The Lion King on this list. Not only that the horrible excuse of an animated "classic" that is a direct insult to all of the fauna in Africa, but it's also known for it's violent imagery that are bound to traumatize innocent families and their small children: Scar's murder plot, Mufasa's death, the hyenas' attempt to eat Simba, Nala and Zazu early in the film, the final fight scene between Simba vs. Scar, Scar's death at the end, the list keeps going and going. People can whine all they want on how they think The Secret of NIMH is violent or scary, but compared to The Lion King, it's more family-friendly then it is.

Comment: Oh god, I hate Pinocchio, it scarred me for life as a kid, I ask myself sometimes, why didn't this film get a PG rating for the dark tones as well as a few adult themes too I mean, they got away with cursing! By today's standards, you immediately get the PG rating slapped on!

Comment: i agree that the secret of nimh should've gotten a PG rating and i heard that don bluth wanted it to be rated PG because of the dark themes but that didn't work out well. it's one of the dark films that i really love!

Comment: 10)well is true, at first was like for kids but later grew up to young adult genre 9)one of Disney most darkest movies 8)I want to see Guillermo del Toro remake! 7)hmm, one of Don Bluth best 6)that song sequence ( I used to be amazed by its visuals but now the song disturbes me) and the perjuices and stuff is pretty self-explanatory, the original book was more dramatic and darker but even though the movie 5)jeez,Pinocchio really scared alot as a kid and those frightning scenes were the reason 4)wait, that was considered a family movie!?, did you know there wa 3)Dark, frightning but there's a child innocence and curiosity 2)uh-huh, cute critters that turn evil when you get them wet or feed them 1)the original books were more darker, but well this movie is a little closer to the original books

Comment: In my opinion, "The Secret of NIMH" should've gotten a PG rating for its dark elements and tone. Don't believe me? One of the characters said the word "Damn" in one scene. A bit much for a *family* movie, eh?

Comment: Watership Down and Plauge Dogs really scary and dark stuff The Witches c'mon I understand Pinnochio being on the list but then again I never saw The Witches as a kid but I do own the dvd I also agree that Coraline was scary I only got scared once! I'm a tough nut to crack!!

Comment: no disrespect but you want the boy to stay a mouse and live only two years? I'm OK with something like that happening to a main character but only if it's a heroic sacrifice or they go out fighting.

Comment: Mr. That Fellow, in your upcoming Top 10 Greatest Movie Never Made video, will "The Thief and the Cobbler" be included? Yes, it was finished (this term I use very loosely) and RUINED by Mirimax Films, but I don't think that even counts. Do you?

Comment: This is a pretty great list. I never knew the original Gremlins was so freaky. But what about Igor, Willy Wonka, The Brave Little Toaster, and pretty much anything by Tim Burton?

Comment: Not Bad Though I Would Have Added The Dark Crystal and Toy Story 3 To The List

Comment: Did you know that they are going to remake "The Witches"? I think it might be a good remake like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," because (despite it being a remake)they might actually get the story right. Because of they'll get the descriptions of the Witches correctly [because the witches' eyes DON'T glow purple, they change to different colors, they spit blue saliva, and don't wear masks (I think)], and end it with the dark ending of the witches being turned into mice and get killed by getting eatten by cats and exterminated.

Comment: Man Pinocchio used to give me nightmares all the time as a kid and I refused to watch it for years because of it no other Disney film had that effect on me, another I would've put on the list is Tarzan it has such a dark opening and the climax is very suspenseful good thing I was a preteen when I saw that, I don't remember the Wheelers frightening me too much as a kid but elements of Gremlins and the Witches did.

Comment: How many times do you have to be told in the comments The Black Cauldron is not an original story inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is based on a book series called The Chronicles of Prydain which bares too much of Lord of the rings than the movie, That Fellow: I'm perfectly aware of that. I even read the first book many years ago. But, it's hard to deny the Tolkien influence. I mean even Princess Eilonwy in the books is too much Like Éowyn from you know what and I thought you put The Hunchback of Norte Dame on a higher rating I Mean how more risque can the song Hellfire get? P.S. I blame Warner Bros. for ruining Don Bluth's career and made him make A troll in central park and Thumbelina and not giving him enough creative freedom like his earlier works before Rock-a-doodle . Its a shame that he did have comeback with 20th Fox with Anastasia, but sadly ended when Titan A.E. bombed at the box office and ended his animation feature career.

Comment: Pretty good list, Fellow. However, I was a little surprised that The Great Mouse Detective wasn't on the list. I mean, c'mon, it had smoking, drinking, sensuality, partial nudity, characters getting killed and beaten up up the ying-yang, one of the greatest horror film actors in history as the bad guy...all that was missing was profanity!

Name: Morgan

Comment: Not a bad list. Still, what about Dark Crystal? Then again, there are other dark family family films to go around like Clash of the Titans 1981 and A Series of Unfortunate Events. P.S. What's so frightening about the Wheelers? I thought they were annoying and too "biker gang" like when I first saw it. That Fellow: Simply put, the way they moved, not to mention their cackling laughter and the sight of them chasing Dorothy has always frightened me.

Comment: As a kid, I avoided most of these films because they were so dark or too difficult to understand(especially Hunchback of Notre Dame) Now,as a teenager, I really want to watch all of these! Nice job!

Comment: Are you sure "Poltergeist" and "Gremlins" are considered family movies? But then again, if I remember back with the 10 Non-Disney Family Songs, I think you said you found the PG-rated films like these, "Ghostbusters", and "Beetlejuice" were considered desperate family outings back then, so I guess I could let this slide. That and I didn't find "Coraline" really worthy of the number three spot, maybe it's because I'm past the age-group of being easily mortified by stuff like that and it came out rather recently. If I were to suggest another honorable mentions it would be "Babe: Pig in the City".

Comment: Pinnochio is not dark IMO. You've given me a reason why I shouldn't watch Return to Oz those Wheelies definetly look creepy.

Comment: I'm sorry for saying this but... ...I HATED "CORALINE"!!! Yes, the visual look of the film is very good, but other than that, it's as dull, bland, and boring as hell! Anyhow, great list, but I think Jim Henson's "The Dark Crystal" (1982) deserves and honorable mention.
