And the recent Ace Ventura sequel is about his son Ace Ventura Jr. You know what actor I can never seem to recognize: Johnny Depp. The only two roles of his I think that have any resemblance are Willie Wonka and the Mad Hatter.

Comment: I really like Jim Carrey, but I don't like all of his films... probably my favorite is "Liar Liar" and I actually really liked "Bruce Almighty" and "Yes Man"... I'll admit I haven't seen a lot of his older films b/c I'm not into "potty humor", but I find Jim to be entertaining. He generally exhibits a similar mix of lovability and insanity that endears me to actors like the great Gene Wilder. I haven't seen "The Truman Show," but I probably should... I think w/Sandler the characters he tends to play are annoying jerks, whereas Carrey has a more likeable quality to the characters he plays, and picks roles where with can sympathize w/and understand his insanity... like in "Liar Liar," where although he plays a jerk, we can understand that he's trying hard to change, and that he is changing, but just having a run of really bad luck... so we can identify with his desire to be a better father to his son, and make up for his past bad behavior. Sandler, in most of his roles, doesn't really go through this kind of metamorphosis... if he starts out being a jerk, he just continues being a jerk... just a more successful jerk... so that makes his insanity/jerkiness just annoying to the audience b/c his character is unrelatable and not sympathetic... I think that's why I prefer Sandler's romantic comedies, b/c his character is forced to make more meaningful choices, and actually adapt to the needs of other people

Comment: Everyone seems to forget Jim Carrey's voice/acting role as Scrooge/All 3 Ghosts in the Zemeckis' 2009 Christmas Carol. Although I grew up with Ace Ventura and some of his other movies, that movie really made me notice how Jim Carrey can portray serious/silly roles. I also loved how I never really noticed he played all the ghosts and scrooge. While not the best Christmas Carol, it's still a pretty good adaptation and Carrey played a big part in making it good.

Comment: Great job on doing the retrospective of the career of Jim Carrey, my favorite comedian! I liked the bit about making up Jim Carrey-less sequels. I like your retrospectives on comedians, although I don't find Adam Sandler to be THAT bad, just a guilty pleasure. If I could make a request (even though you might not take requests), could you please do one on either Mike Myers or Eddie Murphy? They started out good, but they're not doing so well right now. Just a thought.

Comment: Agree with you here, Mr. Fellow. I, too, prefer Jim Carrey over Adam Sandler. Much more versatile and better and choosing scripts (plus, No Rob Schneider in his movies). And it's a pity Sandler keeps doing the same kind of role in the same type of comedy (I'm just waiting for them to actually start making some of the ideas Cartman came up with in that South Park Episode). So like you said, he should look at Carrey for inspiration.
