Comment: "Spirited Away" is the best... my other favs. in no particular order; "Howl's Moving Castle," "Kiki's Delivery Service," "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," "Princess Monoke," and "Totoro" my fav. Ghibli film that's not Miyazaki is "Pom Poko."
It's too bad the latest two to come out of the studio are so lackluster... "Ponyo" was okay... though the dubb was fairly atrocious aside from Liam Neeson... he's a superb voice actor. I'd stay away from "Tales From Earthsea" unless you've read every Earthsea book, and even then you'll be hopelessly confused if you haven't read them recently. Overall the film is visually stunning, but it's confusing as hell... which leads to apathy towards the characters... so if you just want to see some pretty animation it's all right... if you're looking for a solid story you won't find it in this movie...
And now a word on Totoro...
TOTORO TOTORO TOTORO!!! I LOVE TOTOROS!!! I have a collection of about 14 plush ones now... they've taken over... and I gotta say though I like the movie, the characters far outshine it. First of all, it's kinda short. It lacks... strength... I think in the story... mostly b/c the main characters don't really have cohesive goals through the film. I wanna see a film totally devoted to the world of the Totoros... also... DON'T GET THE DISNEY DUBB!!!!! It may be hard to find, and the actual sync of the dialogue is sometimes a tad off, but for the mere fact that those darn Fanning girls can't pronounce TO-TO-RO to save their lives... GET THE FOX/MGM DUBB!!!!! It is frustrating to no end to here them keep saying TOE-TER-O... OVER AND OVER!!! End of rant...
I love Miyazaki, but it looks like his son doesn't have the same story telling ability he has... I certainly hope their next film will be better. Still gotta love the beautiful animation, though! :)

Comment: You know what the best thing about Miyazaki's films are? The fact that you don't need to be an anime fan to like them! I mean it, I know a ton of people who detest anime with a passion yet love Miyazaki's work! Even Doug Walker has Spirited Away as one of his favorite movies of all time despite him making it perfectly clear that he doesn't care for anime. (With the exception of Cowboy Bebop)

Comment: Another excellent review. Though I'm not a fan of anime, some of these videos look interesting. Which of Hayao Miyazaki's movies should I watch? I was leaning toward Princess Mononoke because it looks very artistic.
What do you think?
