Comment: I think the rescuers down under is a good movie. but I dont consider it part of the disney renaissance, why because the story is to much of a comedy! like oliver & compeny or the great mouse detictive. I know it came out after the little murmaid but this is what I think happend that disney probley wanted to come out during the before disney renaissance era. disney probley had somthing pop up and pushed the release date to 1990. I am not saying the disney movies before the disney renaissance werent good but what I am saying is that those movies were more of a comedy and the disney renaissance movies were more serious. and I think the rescuers down under is not as good as the Lion King or Beauty & the Beast but a good movie that is not in my mind a disney renaissance film but a movie that came out during the disney renaissance.

Comment: The reason why this was a financial failure is that it was overshadowed by Dances with Wovles; wboth were released in the same week. Another reason is that people who watched the first one dismissed it. There's also lack of proper advertising as well.
I hope that answers your question.

Comment: My reason for why "Rescuers 2" bombed at the box office was because it failed to meet audience's expectations that were set by "The Little Mermaid".

Comment: I agree - McLeash was definately a better villain in the Rescuers movies.

Comment: You're totally right about this film being better than it's original! It's kinda like what Mario 3 did for Mario, Super Metroid for Metroid, Rayman 2 for Rayman, Sonic 3 for Sonic and finally Emperor of the Night for Disney's Pinocchio! Mario 3 is the biggest and best game on the NES, Super Metroid is great in terms of music, atmosphere and bosses, Rayman 2 revolutionised the Rayman games until the Rabbids came along, Sonic 3 for the save feature and lock-on technology and Emperor of the Night for being a WHOLE lot better in favor of Disney heck! Even the supporting character of Willackers is quite similar to Jiminy but with a touch of Sonic thrown in!

Comment: I think I know why it bombed. As you said, it was released on November 16, 1990, the exact same day as "Home Alone", which obviously grossed higher, and became the highest grossing film of 1990.

Comment: You should used Autrailia by Manic Street Preachers or Down Under by Men At Work during the end credits, since it's set in Australia

Comment: I prefer the first one over this, it's like picking District 9 over Avater. The original has better story; characters and ecellent use of comedy, emotion and action; and watched it as kid growing up. In fact on Rotten Tomatoes it got a rating of 84%.

Comment: I absolutely loved this movie when I was little (still do) and was one of the only people among my friends who had ever seen it. Your timing is great; I just re-watched this a couple of weeks ago. Enjoyed your commentary on the whole thing, especially your comments on how Cody can scale those cliffs without gear. I always wondered about that, too.

Comment: Now, I really do like The Rescuers. But, I like The Rescuers Down Under even more. I've seen it more back in late 90's and it was amazing. Yep, I really think Mcleach is one of the coolest villians ever. Thankfully, I got the DVD earlier this year and I am totally enjoying it. Anyway, I will recommend this movie to almost everyone. Yeah, I know about the third rescuers movie's Cancellation because of Eva Gabor's death. Anyway, I too like the music in this film. I remember playing the opening theme over and over again when I was younger. And yes, I agree that this is one of the superior sequels ever made.

Comment: Awsome review Hewey! I love "Rescuers Down Under"! In fact it was the first Disney film I've ever seen(I saw it on video when I was 3 since I was a baby when this was released in theaters). I too am sad that it bombed.:(

Comment: Truly one of the few good Disney sequels ever made...too bad more people don't know about it. And yeah, McLeach is five times the villain Medusa is. He actually scared me a little when I was a kid! Another great review, Hewy! PS, totally agreed that Jake is awesome, but I wanted to smack him when he was hitting on Bianca. Move on, mate, she's Bernard's girl!

Comment: Great review! It was a little slow in the first portion, but I'd have to agree it really picked up with the Jeff Dunham gag. This truly was a magnificent film. I remember watching this one first when I was younger, and while the original had a certain simple charm to it, this one really had more balls. Thumbs up.

Comment: @Devon The Heavy joke was MY idea. I saw the phone blooper he had, and used it to my advantage. Heavy was trying to call in and make a request...

THAT... is sick and wrong!

Comment: No wonder this is #11 on the Nostalgia Critic's Top 11 Underrated Nostalgic Classics. And I'd have to admit this is like "Avatar", "How To Train Your Dragon" and Legend of the Gaurdians" but 20 years earlier. "The Little Mermaid" also used the CAPS process, but only for like 10 or 15 minutes. The rest was hand-painted. BTW, nice Jeff Dunham reference. "Yo dog! RUUUUNNNN!!!" LOL XD And what's up with the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 at the end?

Comment: Nice review, Hewy. I feel realy bad for the director of "The Rescuers Down Under" When I saw
"Waking Sleeping Beauty" in theaters. His movie did'nt do so well at box office. Jeffrey Katzenberg told him they are taking his film out of the theaters. It made him cry. :(
