Comment: I really hated how the adult male characters are treated in this film. The guy aliens are portrayed as all idiots and you don't see the human father much.
As someone who was raised by her dad for a long time i was seriously offended. Screw this movie.

Comment: I completely agree w/you about motion capture... I don't even really like CGI animation anyway... I'd rather see some beautiful hand drawn stuff, or just see live action. I guess there's just something SO much more marvelous about having humans closer to the final product. Yeah, CGI requires animators, but it just doesn't have the same feeling of life as hand drawn in my mind... it's kinda like CGI just makes everything more dead... and it does this to live action films too, just compare the older Star Wars movies with the newer ones... PUPPETS FOREVER!!! So yeah... motion capture has a place, but it's NOT for AN ENTIRE MOVIE!!!
I'm hoping to see more hand drawn movies in the future, as I think it would be a shame to abandon the beauty of that form. :)

Comment: Thankfully, Disney is going to release an animated movie of Winnie the Pooh this year too. I hope that it'll turn out so much better, and this would be Disney fourth time to release a movie is an official sequel to one of their movies. Not another direct-to-video/non-canon sequel like "Tigger Movie," "Piglet's Big Movie," or the "Heffelump Movie."

Comment: Nice review Hewy. The dialogue got hilariously cheesy at the end of your review, but I enjoyed it. And it's nice to see Mars in the title card for a review on a movie that takes place on Mars. That's a nice pun :)

Comment: I haven't seen this movie, but I doubt I'll see it anytime soon. I can't believe it was directed by the same person who directed "The Prince of Egypt," one of my all-time favorite non-Disney animated movies. Awesome review, though, Hewy! PS, loved the "Futurama" clip and the bit with Count Sigeeyai. And yeah, the idea of a middle-aged human/teenage alien relationship IS pretty vomit-inducing.

Comment: Spielberg's doing Tintin, so it should be decent. My problem with "Mars Needs Moms" is the title itself. It sounds kind of, you know, WRONG!!!

Comment: That was pretty funny. I'm pretty surprised they thought Seth Green was "too mature" fr a movie like this! In the future, I'd like to see more count Sigeeyai. That bit was funny!

Comment: Great review, Hewy. I have to agree that the motion-capture is wicked annoying and is used WAY too much!

Comment: All four of Zemeckis' motion capture movies (Polar Express, Monster House, Beowulf and A christmas carol) were pretty good, But this one seems really generic and nothing special. Am i the only one who sees this plot as kind of a ripoff of Jimmy Neutron? (I know that it's based on a book but the majority of people probably has never heard of it).

Comment: Here's a good reason why this movie seems stupid. It's because it was based on a children's book with the same name by Berkeley Breathed, the same man who created Bloom Country and Opus the Penguin. Sounds like a good ol' blockbuster, don't it? It don't! And if you ask me, the Martains are some of the UGLIEST examples of character design I've ever seen for an animated feature! I'm just thankful I didn't see it anyhow. Plus, I am SO looking forward to Spielberg's upcoming Tintin movie! I don't really think motion capture is terrible at all, but it can be if you have the wrong story to go with it.

Comment: my thoughts exactly! i'm so tired of motion capture and Robert should go back to real actors. the only real good movie from that for me is The Polar Express.

Comment: Yay they canceled the Yellow Submarine remake there is no point in remaking it, the Beatles are not all that relevant today, two members are dead, it was a product of it's time, and that movie was trippy as hell, I am however looking forward to the CGI Tin Tin movie.

Comment: *sigh
I knew this movie was going to be bad from the moment I heard about it DX
But anyway, one of the reasons why I really like your reviews
is that you see both the good points and the bad points of the movies you reviewed, you don't go ranting or bashing like many other revierwers(sp?) (looks at the Nostalgica Critic)

Comment: Great video Hewy but, I didn't like the movie at all when I did my review of Mars Needs Moms I gave it 4 out of 10, because of the same things. I got a idea for a video The Top 10 or 20 under rated animated movies.
