Episode 2:
Movie Misperception: Return to Oz

A walk down the twisted yellow brick road exploring the darker passages in the world of OZ. The 1984 Disney film was a total bomb at the box office, but did it deserve to be snubbed?

Comment: @ Ebalance, I've seen the debate about this subject on Jaimetud's video and I have a very polite request to make. Read your comment and think about the ONE thing you did not do. What was it? You don't even mention anything specific about the video you are supposedly commenting on. I understand you feel very strong about this, I have fantasy series I feel strongly about (which by the way Rankin Bass is totally guilty of screwing up source material) But you are essentially blogging about literature on a page dedicated to a VIDEO based on MOVIE. I'm not trying to tell you to shut up, or that i'm pissed about this. I'm simply asking that if you feel this way, then make your own video expressing yourself about it. If you don't want to do that, then at least start a New thread over on the forum, where it belongs. Thanks for watching by the way. My intent for these videos is to entertain and hopefully incite a laugh or two. Not to piss anyone off. Good Day.

Comment: I just wish people would stop saying this movie is more like the books than the 1939 film... my favorite author, L Frank Baum really has never had a very true to his stories movie made except for a couple really old, rare, forgotten films made shortly before his death by his own company, and also the two adaptations of "The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause" are fairly good. I kind of wish Rankin Bass had done an Oz adaptation. Thank goodness they like to stick close to the source material. Apart from hating this movie for being a truly wretched mess that mangles the source material, I don't think the movie is that great in its own right either. At least the 1939 movie is good on its own merit, though as I've gotten older I've started to like it less. What bothers me the most about this movie is it takes free license to combine COMPLETELY SEPARATE CHARACTERS. The most notable being: Nome King and General Jinjur Dorothy and Ozma Mombi and Princess Languidere As for the 1939 film they only combined the Good Witch of the North w/Glinda (Good Witch of the South) and since neither had an extremely pivotal role in that story it made sense to do it for time purposes... god only knows why the people who made RTO decided to mash two Oz books together... PLEASE!!! I BEG EVERYONE TO READ THE BOOKS!!! And that's some of why I think this movie probably does not really deserve to be dug out of its shallow grave.

Comment: You BETTER be sorry for that... uhhgh. KE$HA reference. I also don't see how people tend to forget the frickin SCARY parts of the original. Oh, god. That movie can get twice as scary as return to oz.

Comment: oh man you mentioned all the dark shit but skipped the lunch pail trees! this movie was an amalgamation of the next two oz books, the nome king is the recurring villain in the oz series, and yes eggs are poison to him. yes mombi has a collection of heads and even in the original book there was some dark or violent crap going down.. what people forget is the old books where made around 1910, a hard time for people coming to settle and farm and baum wrote these stories like classic fairy tales. meaning they can be dark and violent sometimes.. i agree that its important to actually mentally prepare children for hardship and fear, it makes them more well rounded human beings and helps complete their mental development

Comment: I have never seen this movie, but as a lifelong fan of the original "Wizard of Oz," I am somewhat intrigued...maybe I'll check it out. And you just made my day with the "Tik Tok" joke, I really like that song! Great job, Topher!
