Comment: Really, it would have been easier just to put every Disney and Pixar animal dead on place one - nobody does tearjearkers better then them. Doesn't matter if it's Bambi's mother, Simba's father or Kerchak, they will get you everytime!
And I think we feel so much about it, because an animal cadaver doesn't induce so much horror as a human body, leaving more room for the sadness.

Comment: Hey Face Nelson, I know this doesn't count but watching Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night where Willackers (best character in the movie!) almost dies could that not have counted as an honourable mention? Or at least the death of Latios and Lucario! and Shadow's death in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic X.

Comment: 12)When Ray died, the first thing I thought was Setsuko's quote from "Grave of the Fireflies", "Why do fireflies have to die so soon?
11)I don't wanna imagine if I was uncoscius and I wake up inaise the broken belly of an animalO-0
10)At least Skip didn't die after he got bashed with the shovel
9)Imagine that your traveling companion dies and you're forced to continue your journey alone
8)The dinosaurs deaths will always be remembered
7) I'm very surprised you added an anime scene here. I haven't seen FullMetal Alchemist that much but I watched a clip of Nina's death and wow, it really was heartbreaking ),,:
6)A very famous scene, and whoever watched this scene as a kid they sure got traumatized. In Lady and the Tramp during the climax, Trusty originally was going to die, but Walt didn't want to repeat the trauamatic like they did in Bambi, so they let Trusty live, only with a broken leg
5)Not only he was able to save Edmund, but also ended future blood debts to the White Witch as well
4)Is more than an instict when a mother has to sacrifice themselves even their lives for their children. Is love
3)Another famous one. Also I cosidire this scene as like "what will you feel if you see your own dad gets killed off/if hedies in front of you?"
2)This is also similar if your pet was very sick and in pain, you'll forced to euthanasize it to put it out of its misery (it happened to one of my older chihuahua dogs)
1)You have something and your happy about it and then suddenly something else comes and takes it away and you weren't able to do nothing
Oh here's my honorable mentions
Toboe-Wolf's Rain
Edwina-Chicken Run
The ant-Honey, I shrunk the kids
Kirby's robot dog-Hoshi no Kaabi anime
and there's others that I want to mention but I can't remember

Comment: @Devon LOL yes, I do like to go one step beyond, but also... "Because it's Christmas!" But really, the reason for the 12 spots was that there were too many animal deaths I wanted to add but couldn't. So I cheated.

Comment: WAAAHHH! BOO HOO! Oops! Sorry bout that.... Ah yes. In my opinion, the saddest deaths in my life are probably the deaths of Simba's dad in "The Lion King" and Bambi's mom in "Bambi". BTW, why Top 12? Maybe because you like to go one step beyond. Know what I mean?

Comment: Nice review Face. I am a big Rite of Spring fan but I never saw the dinosaur scene before. By the way, what about the death of Tom's mother at the beginning of Fox and the Hound?

Comment: It's actually Chernabog the god of death not satan in Night On Bald Mountain.
P.S. Richard Metheson's novel that I Am Legend is based on is ten times better.

Comment: When you mentioned what would the face of the man that killed Bambi's mom looked like; According to the creator behind 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' he wanted to make Judge Doom be the man that killed Bambi's mom. But the idea was scrapped because that would've been way off topic for Eddie Valiant to say that.

Comment: And now I feel dumb because I forgot to mention Kerchak's death from Tarzan in my previous post. THAT was definitely up there on the sad Disney animal death list!

Comment: Great list Nelson! :) that is strange how we feel closer to animals to humans. I especially loved 'CSI Bambi". That was so funny! You really should have movre views on Youtube.

Comment: @Meg As I was picking which deaths would make the list, I considered Bartholomew's death. Poor guy was too drunk to know that he was in danger :( I totally forgot that Todd's mom died. I think I blocked it from my memory.
@Jaimetud I'll add it to my reading list. Thanks! Have fun at your Christmas party!
@John Ashamed to say, I've never seen either of those movies, but I heard Plague Dogs was pretty freaky.
As a side note: This list was very hard for me to do. There are so many sad animal deaths and, although I did a LOT of research on this and asked many people their opinions on what should make the list, I knew I wouldn't have enough room to have all the sad animal deaths that deserve to be mentioned. Heck, I even added two extra spots.

Comment: Excellent list, Face Nelson! Here are a few other animal deaths I personally thought were sad and how they died in case you haven't seen the movies they're from: *Tod's mom (The Fox and the Hound) - like Bambi's mom, shot by human hunters *Bartholomew (The Great Mouse Detective) - eaten alive by the villain's pet cat *Bruton (Disney's Dinosaur) - sacrificed himself to save the main character and his friends from carnivorous dinosaurs.

Comment: You did a splendid job with this list. A lot of these deaths are ones I would've chosen myself. Now I'm all depressed and I'm on my way to a Christmas party this evening :-). You know it's interesting. Everyone talks about Bambi's mother dying as being depressing, but I just finished reading the book recently. If you think the movie was depressing, I recommend you read the original book by Felix Salten.
