Episode 33:
Vaulting: The Cat in the Hat

As if life couldn't get any rough, Morgan has to review a movie that is really tough. With zany plot-lines and Chinese babysisters with plently of fat, but the worst of all is Mike Myers as the infamous cat!

Comment: Oh thank you for finally telling how crappy this film was. It was a disgrace to the name of Dr. Sessus. It even brought his wife to tears. I actually know three people who liked the film. I felt that I had to slap them in the face. Thanks again for the review. Thank you for saving us for going to see films such as this one.

Comment: To Joe: Yeah. It was a rough week, but don't worry. I have plans to bounce back and do what a I can even if I lost two years of archival material. To Private: Tune in this week to find out...I hope to have it up either Tuesday or Wednesday. Worse case cinario, Friday. To KimJ:In all honesty, I doubt a review of Horton will come out. I will admit, it was a good Seuss adaptation, but the problem was that it was after this Feline's demise, so it was hard to accept how Seuss would be seen and depicted in CGI. With what they did, it worked aside from one or three things. But it was ok. It's the Lorax I'm worried about. It's one of my favorite books I loved to read as a kid.

Comment: What have they done?:( They killed one of the characters and stories that I held so dear. The Cat in the Hat I remember was witty, charming, is a bit zany in a mild mannered way, and is good friend to have (like Willy Wonka). This is an acid-trip of an abomination with Austin Powers in a cat-suit.

Comment: I remember actually paying to see this in the theatre. My mistake. The person I went with experienced actual physical discomfort while watching this movie. Since then, I actually know of children who were terrified by it. To be fair, I DID liked the colorful visual style, even though Dr. Suess' version was much more subdued. But am I the only one who finds it off that this Cat has an obsession with showing his butt to the kids AND keeps two blue haired children in a box? I'm pretty sure there's some illegal activity with minors going on there.

Comment: I LOVE "The Grinch" with Jim Carrey. And to be honest, I don't understand why so many people hate it. I felt it truely had a lot of humor, heart and cleary had a Seussian style. What bugs me is they tried (I use this loosely) to do the same thing with "Cat in the Hat". Seriously, this is like the "Drop Dead Fred" of the 2000's. It claims to be a fun "kid's" film, but its just to inappropriate and innuendo-infested for its own good. In other words, YOU KNOW! FOR KIDS!

Comment: When you do "Small Solders" is it going to be favorible review? I know it was, as the "Wexner Center of the Arts" put it in their newsbook description, "used to sell happy meals", but I thought Dante did a decent job directing it and I almost got to see this doubled with "Mant" (the complete version of the film in "Matinee") and the "It's a Good Life" of "The Twilight Zone Movie" at the Wexner when they had a month of his films. Unfortuantly, I was scheduled for work, so I didn't get to see it.

Comment: What the fuck? Mike Myers is like the evil version of Robin Williams. Wasn't the book supposed to be about having fun but being responsible about it hence why he cleans up the place when he's done. It should of been about a strict mother not letting her kids be kids, until she leaves and the cat comes in and shows them a good time. And in the end the mother changes as well as they teach her as well. I don't know it sounds too whimsical for my tastes but I think that's a hell of a lot better and keeps it simple like the book or like "Where The Wild Things Are".

Comment: Yeah, Tim Burton is a pretty big Dr. Seuss fan and you can definitely see the influence on Nightmare Before Christmas. I agree that He would be great with Seuss.

Comment: I almost wanted to see that movie when I saw the theater trailer. What stopped me was the part when The Cat saw the mother's picture and did that 'centerfold' joke.

Comment: Personally, I would rather watch the live-action Grinch movie (and even then, I watched that film solely for Jim Carrey as the title character) than see this one.

Comment: To Jacob: I will admit, Horton got a lot right and stayed true to the source. There were moments I almost shrank back into my seat of embarrassment like the anime dream, beacause of how this was coming out of the turmoil of that 2003 Feline of picutre. For what it was, Horton was good despite some things here and there, but Blue Sky has yet to disapoint, so it's not on my hate list. I kinda see them as inbewteen DreamWorks and Pixar as well as not competeting with the two and producing their own work. Still, I'm a tad worried about The Lorax....it was my favorite Seuss story and special...and they got Danny DeVito to voice him?!?!...I would have prefered Tim Burton and his stop-motion animation.

Comment: Alec Baldwin as a slimy, arrogant and cocky Jackass? Now there's some ideal casting! Can't wait for the next review Morgan. P.S- what did you think of Horton hears a who? It's no pixar movie but it was at least family frendly and somewhat entertaining and prooves that Dr. Seuss is definitley more fit for animation than live-action.

Comment: Nice review. Yep, this was definitely one of the banes of my childhood. To be fair though, the part where the Cat uses the dress to mop up the mess is a nod to the book’s sequel, The Cat in the Hat Come Back
